Joseph Maxwell
Headmaster

Mr. Maxwell has a B.A. in Liberal Arts from Wyoming Catholic College and is currently pursuing a Pontifical Diploma in Ecclesiastical Latin (Diplōma Latinitātis Ecclesiāsticae) through the Veterum Sapientia Institute.

When he is not teaching, Mr. Maxwell enjoys spending time with his wife, son, and daughter, raising Nigerian Dwarf dairy goats, and singing at mass in the local schola.

  • Mr. Jim Geyer, Math

    Mr. Geyer comes to Chesterton Academy with over 30 years of teaching and coaching experience within the Catholic school system. Mr. Geyer has previously taught for the diocese of San Francisco, San Jose and Santa Rosa both at the high School and grade school level. Mr. Geyer attended the University of California at Berkeley in the college of engineering. He graduated from the university of California at Davis with a BA degree in Economics. Between Berkeley and Davis, Mr. Geyer served in the US Coastguard reserves. After graduation from Davis, Mr. Geyer worked five years as a cost/schedule engineer for Bechtel Corporation. Working in the mining and metal and power divisions. Before assuming a teaching career, Mr. Geyer completed pre-theology and first theology as a seminarian student for the diocese of Gallup New Mexico.

    Mr. Geyer and his wife, Anika, have relocated and “retired” to live in Central Point. However, the appeal of a new faith based, classical Catholic high school inspired Mr. Geyer to participate anew in the wonderful journey of faith and discovery that enfolds within each new school year. He feels blessed to be part of the blossoming Chesterton Academy of the Rogue Valley school community.

  • Mrs. Kathy Kantor, Art & Art History

    Mrs. Kantor grew up in Klamath Falls, Oregon and moved to Medford after graduating from SOU with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.

    She homeschooled all three of her sons and taught various classes with the Sacred Heart Homeschool Co-op for the last 16 years.

    When she is not working on her classes at Chesterton Academy, you will find her sewing, making rosaries, spending time with her family, helping Magdalene Home or running to Dutch Bros!

  • Dr. Norman Wakefield, Music & Schola

    Dr. Wakefield is a distinguished musician and educator with a Doctor of Music Education, a Master of Music in Performance, and a Bachelor of Arts with concentrations in Music, Arts & Letters, Social Science, and Liberal Studies. A dedicated member of the Church Music Association of America, he currently serves as Director of Music at Our Lady of the Mountain Catholic Church, and Music and Artistic Director of Schola Dominae Nostrae.

    With specialized training in the sacred music of the Renaissance and Baroque periods, as well as Gregorian Chant, Dr. Wakefield brings deep liturgical knowledge to his work. He is well-versed in both the Ordinary and Extraordinary Forms of the Roman Rite and has experience with the Dominican Rite and the Eastern liturgies of the Byzantine, Coptic, and Syriac Churches.

    Dr. Wakefield has performed across the U.S. and internationally in opera, oratorio, and choral music. Locally, he is a performer and board member with the Jefferson Baroque Orchestra. He has sung in the William Byrd Festival under the late Dr. Richard Marlow of Trinity College, Cambridge, and with the acclaimed choir Cantores in Ecclesia. His recording credits include On American Shores, the first English-language recording of works by Estonian composer Veljo Tormis, with the award-winning Portland State University Chamber Choir under Dr. Bruce Browne.

    In addition to his role at Chesterton Academy, Dr. Wakefield has taught at Portland State University, College of the Redwoods, and Rogue Community College. He lives in southern Oregon with his wife, Jessica, and their three children—Fraser, Cecilia, and Benjamin.

  • Mr. Nick Naumes

    Mr. Naumes has a B.A. in History from Southern Oregon University, and a J.D. cum laude from Willamette University College of Law.  Mr. Naumes briefly attended the Catholic University of America in Washington D.C., before withdrawing to enlist in the U.S. Navy.  Mr. Naumes served for 5 years, being on active duty for the USS Cole and 9/11 terror attacks, before being deployed in support of both Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi freedom.  After leaving active duty service, he obtained a certificate from Rogue Community College before entering university to obtain his degrees.  Mr. Naumes has a wide variety of employment experiences in the service industry, to digging graves, to law enforcement. 

    When not teaching, Mr. Naumes enjoys spending time with his family and the family dog Rosie, for whom Mr. Naumes acts as her emotional support human.  He is a life-long Catholic, having been baptized here at Sacred Heart, the Parish where his family has been active members since 1929.
